For the Dough:
100g flour
1g yeast
55ml warm water
For the Custard Filling:
50ml formula milk
10g food supplement oil (or neutral vegetable oil)
1 egg yolk
7.5g low-gluten flour
5g corn starch
In a bowl, combine egg yolk, formula milk, food supplement oil, low-gluten flour, and corn starch.
Stir the mixture until smooth and no lumps remain.
Pour the mixture into a non-stick pan and cook over low heat, stirring constantly.
Continue to stir until the custard thickens and clumps together.
Let it cool completely, then divide into small uniform balls for filling.
Dissolve yeast in warm water and mix evenly.
Gradually pour this yeast mixture into the flour while stirring until the dough becomes flocculent.
Knead into a smooth dough and place in a warm area to ferment until it doubles in size.
Punch down the fermented dough to release air. Roll it into a long strip and cut into equal pieces.
Flatten each piece into a round wrapper.
Place a custard ball in the center of each wrapper. Wrap, seal the edges, and shape into smooth round buns.
Place the buns in a steamer and let them rest for 15 minutes.
Steam over high heat for 15 minutes. Turn off the heat and let them sit for an additional 3 minutes before opening the lid.
These steamed custard buns are soft, subtly sweet, and perfect served warm. Whether you're introducing new flavors to toddlers or sharing a nostalgic treat, they’re sure to please.
