Toast (trimmed)
Pineapple (fresh or canned)
1 egg yolk
White sesame seeds
1 tsp cornstarch + 2 tbsp water (slurry)
2–3 tbsp sugar
1️⃣ Prepare the Pineapple Filling
Peel and dice fresh pineapple (or use canned).
Soak fresh pineapple in light saltwater for 20 minutes to reduce acidity.
In a pan, cook pineapple with sugar over low heat.
Add cornstarch slurry and stir until thickened into a jam-like filling. Set aside to cool.
2️⃣ Prepare the Toast
Cut off the crusts from each toast slice.
Roll out thinly with a rolling pin.
3️⃣ Assemble the Pastries
Place a spoonful of pineapple filling on one side of the toast.
Brush the edges with beaten egg yolk.
Fold the toast in half, press firmly to seal, and score a few lines on top.
4️⃣ Bake or Pan-Fry
Brush the top with egg yolk and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
Place on a baking sheet or frying pan.
Bake at 170°C (340°F) for 25 minutes until golden brown, OR pan-fry until crisp.
For extra fragrance, add a drop of vanilla extract to the pineapple filling.
Serve warm for the best texture—crispy outside and gooey inside!
