60g unsalted butter (softened)
30g powdered sugar
1 egg yolk (beaten)
100g low-gluten flour
Cocoa powder (for dark patches)
Pumpkin powder (for yellow patches)
1. Make the Base Dough
Soften the butter until it becomes toothpaste-like.
Add powdered sugar and beat until it turns white and fluffy.
Gradually add the beaten egg yolk in three parts, beating well after each addition.
Sift in the low-gluten flour and knead into a smooth dough.
2. Color the Dough
Divide a small portion of the dough.
Mix one part with cocoa powder and one with pumpkin powder to create brown and yellow dough.
3. Create the Calico Pattern
Flatten the original (plain) dough between two sheets of wax paper.
Randomly add patches of the brown and yellow dough on top.
Roll the mixed dough into a thin sheet.
4. Chill and Shape
Freeze the patterned dough for 5 minutes to firm it up.
Use a cat-shaped cookie cutter to press out the cookies.
5. Bake
Place cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Preheat the oven to 150°C (302°F).
Bake for 20 minutes. Cover loosely with foil halfway through to prevent over-browning.
6. Decorate (Optional)
Once cooled, use food-safe pens or melted chocolate to draw cat faces: eyes, nose, whiskers, and mouth.
